Kerensa - Biography
Kerensa is an assured and devastatingly skilful
Hammered Dulcimer player who delivers a
performance that is innovative, energetic and
confident.
And who could expect anything else since she has learnt
from the masters! In her early days she recieved expert
tuition from Jim Couza and Maclaine Colston, both
considered by many to be the best Hammered Dulcimer
players of their generation. Kerensa has taken their
teachings and developed her own uniquely powerful
playing style that captivates audiences where ever she
performs.
" You can expect fresh ideas and lots of
energy from this talented musician. Her
spontaneuos style makes her thrilling to
watch and an absolute delight to listen to"
(Maclaine Colston)
Although Kerensa's primary instrument is the Hammered Dulcimer, she also displays an
enviable talent for the playing of whistles and singing of traditional Cornish and English
songs, with either guitar or mandola accompaniment. The result is a repetoire that is both
varied and interesting.
Kerensa is probably best remembered for her early work
with Tim van Eyken and as
the founder member of the
Acoustic Youth Band. These ensembles led to a track
recorded for Mrs. Casey's 'Evolving Tradition' album and appearances at a venues such
as the South Bank and Barbican Centres in London and some of the UK's top folk
festivals.

Since returning to her home town of Truro in Cornwall 6 years ago, Kerensa has been
concentrating on rediscovering her roots. She spent some time working with Cornish band
'Ahanan', appearing at venues and festivals in Cornwall and further afield. The band also
recorded a sound track for the first ever Cornish/English bilingual film 'Bitter Sweet'. More
recently she has also been luck enough to work alongside the wonderful
singer/songwriter/guitarist Steve Hunt.

After taking a short break from gigging (to bring up her 2 beautiful children!), Kerensa is
now looking forward to getting back into music in a big way!
