Leski pride themselves on their unique repertoire which encompasses their passion for Cornish music & tradition, with fresh new material, drawing on their own musical experience & influences. Kerensa is an assured and devastatingly skillful hammered dulcimer player who delivers a performance which is innovative, energetic and confident. She is probably best known for her early work with Tim van Eyken and as the founder member of The Acoustic Youth Band. These ensembles led to a track recorded for Mrs. Caseys 'Evolving tradition album' and appearances at venues such as The Barbican and South Bank centre's in London and some of the U.K's top folk festivals. Since returning to her home town of Truro in Cornwall 6 years ago, Kerensa has been concentrating on rediscovering her roots. She has continued to perform in various lineups including the Cornish band 'Ahanan' with whom she recorded a track for the first ever Cornish/English bilingual film 'Bittersweet' and more recently in collaboration with the fantastic singer/songwriter/guitarist Steve Hunt. Richard grew up surrounded by music and began playing fiddle at the age of 8. He soon joined a community fiddle group 'Bagas Crowd' & it was during this time that he came into contact with some of Cornwall's foremost traditional players. Richard is now considered by many to be one of Cornwall's finest, having played alongside some of Cornwalls top musicians top musicians: Neil Davey, Pentorr & Second Wave dancers. Richards sites his main influences in terms of fiddle style as Eliza Carthy, Dave Swarbrick, Athene Roberts, Neil Davey & Sarah Fisher & many other great fiddle players who he has been privileged to have heard. His own style takes aspects from all of the fiddle players that he loves & moulds them into a style which can be rhythmic & modern with a driving sound. Yet, in contrast he possesses a musical empathy which is rare in someone so young. Richard Trethewey & Kerensa got together for the first time to play for a one off charity gig in February 2007. The musical rapport shared by the duo was apparent from the moment they set first foot on the stage: from fiery fiddle sets, to Cornish dance tunes and slow airs - the audience was hooked & the response they received was overwhelming. They knew then, that there would be no looking back! FOR MORE INFORMATION OR BOOKINGS CLICK HERE |
